This Can't Be a Good Idea

*Yikes. Will they please leave my childhood alone?

According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Universal won a bidding war for the big-screen rights to the classic 1979 Atari game Asteroids. Writer Matthew Lopez, who recently worked on Disney's Bedtime Stories and Race to Witch Mountain, has the task of inventing a story for the arcade game, in which a player controling a space ship racks up points by shoots asteroids and flying saucers. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) will produce.

This doesn't even make sense...where's the story? Just a straight prostitution of the Astroid name? I am 'condom-confused' about this one.

This is ridiculous. Anyone who feels any emotional tie to this game will not have any desire to see the film. Anyone who sees the film (should it ever come to fruition) will have no idea where the name/concept originated. Doesn't that defeat the purpose for obtaining rights? #FAIL
